200 Word Challenge – Writing

 200 Word Challenge

The 200 Word Challenge is an opportunity to practice writing using just the right words. 200 Words might sound like a lot, but once you get going you’ll find yourself crossing that line easily, so be careful to only say what you NEED to.

(This whole thing is over 100 words already)

For Week One your challenge is to write a 200 word recount of a time you…

Tasted the best food you’ve ever tasted.

Remember! This week we have been learning about chronological order. Make sure you get the sequence of events in the right order.

Begin your writing here:

It was the last day that my brother was with us until he went back to Hawkes Bay to his boarding school. This means he got to pick what he wanted as his last dinner like he always does on his last days! And so, he picked to go to Denny’s. Me, my 2 brothers, mum, nephew and niece all went to Denny’s.

We all met up at the entrance as my brother drove in his own car. Once we all met up we went inside and booked us a table. It was quite full too. We got seated down and had a menu where we all chose what we wanted to have for dinner. My nephew and I ordered the same thing except for drinks. I chose to have spaghetti bolognese and a waffle with syrup and cream on it. It already sounded delicious.

Once our food arrived, I immediately dug in and I was in pure shock. It was just as delicious as I expected. The mince went amazingly well with the spaghetti. The spaghetti wasn’t even the regular ones that I had back at home. The sauce and seasoning was all different but I liked it. The food was astounding and it tasted gorgeous. There was also garlic bread on the side which I had with the spaghetti and once I took a bite of it…It was like I was in Heaven. I kept eating it, it was so good! I thought to myself that this was the best thing I had ever tasted.  But then it all went away and all disappeared into my stomach. I was satisfied.

Kia Ora! This is my writing task for the week. It is a recount writing about the best thing i have ever tasted. I tried to find the best words to use for this piece of writing. I hope you enjoy reading it!

Recount Writing – Immersion Assembly

Today is October 9th, first day back at school for the term and you know what happens on first day’s back at school? Immersion assembly! Immersion assembly’s are inside our main hall where we have all of our assembly’s.

This morning we had immersion assembly and the theme for the term is “Make It Work” which also associates with problem-solving, puzzles and thinking! I can think of many things for this term’s theme and the activities we can do that relates to it. During the immersion assembly, i noticed a big tank of water and a leak. I was observing it and was confused, it seemed as though everyone else had noticed it too. It took up most of the stage. I just ignored it though.

We started the assembly with the Mihi and the Karakia which the prefects took care of. After the Karakia and Mihi we started talking about the theme until- A voice speaks into the mic from behind and i check to see…Mrs Nua?! Mrs Nua suddenly came in and interrupted Mr Burt. I was confused and a bit shocked. What was she doing? The tone of her voice sounded angry.

“How can we have an assembly with that leak over there?!” Mrs Nua says. Mr Jacobsen was supposed to fix it but he didn’t. So we needed to come up with a plan on how we can fix it. Luckily, Mr Summerville had a solution. He thought if we put the hose inside the tank and then outside it can be sucked and be transferred out. I thought it was cool how it happened but then the leak stopped and Mr Jacobsen said it was just a hose above it for the fake leak and said how it wasn’t real. That finally answered my question and then we got onto the main thing about the assembly.

First off was Team 1. They made a movie about a dog named Max and Mrs Shirley. The movie was about Max getting lost and running away. Max always runs off to annoy the neighbours. Mrs Shirley then rings a company named “Sofa” to help with the dog. The workers made an idea to make walls around the dog but that wouldn’t work so they decided to make a cage around the dog. Team 1 is learning about closure this term.

Right after Team 1 was Team 2. Team 2 also had a movie. The movie was about choosing what you want to be. They are going to be learning about solving and fixing problems. Designing and creating how they can improve their bay.

Team 3 was next and they put on an act. It was about a girl traveling to the past where she had to find ways to survive. She had to make bridges to the solutions for her problems on her own. This term, they are going to be learning about bridges and designing them.

Came next was Team 4. Team 4 put on a movie on thinking, defining and empathizing. We will be looking at problems and how we can fix it. Mainly on furniture and what we can build to make Team 4 look better.

Last but not least was Team 5. Team 5 had a song prepared. It went “Pt England, can we fix it? Pt England, Yes we can!” and we all sung it. It was inspired by DJ NOIZ. Have you ever heard of DJ NOIZ? Personally, Team 5 was my favorite. I enjoyed the song.

Immersion assembly’s are usually my favorite because it’s exciting and fun to find out what other team’s are learning. I think the theme for this term is creative and can help you learn lots.
