Digital Collage: Stop/Go

HEYY GUYSSS !!!1!1 It’s me Maraea and this week in literacy, me and my group had to read this book titled ‘Stop/Go’ by
David Geary and then do our follow-up task. But the follow-task isn’t what this post is about, but rather the create task!
For our create task this week, we had a bit of a fun one — or at least to me. We had to make a digital collage! I think I
did quite fun for this one.

One thing I enjoyed about this task was looking for the matching images and just sticking them on. I also liked seeing the whole thing progress
into something much better with each picture I slap on.

Drama Play: Inquiry 2024

On Tuesday last week, everyone in team 5 had to perform their group plays for inquiry. Our theme for this term is “Drama” which is why we had to do plays. Everyone in team 5 was put into different groups where they had to pick a play from the school journals and practise it, having the whole term to make sure they memorised their words, have their costumes ready, and really get into character. My group consisted of me and 5 others where we all work together to make sure our play goes well.

For me personally, I think my group was amazing. Everyone was there on the day and showed up which was the most important part; bringing their costumes and props. Each of us memorised our lines and hardly messed up, making the play go smoothly. We were facing the audience and didn’t turn our backs on them – besides our chanting where we didn’t have a choice – while also projecting our voices, making it clear for those who were in the back. I’m proud of everyone in my group and also myself for going first and showing everyone how it’s done! We also did well with the enthusiasm and how we really tried our best to fit the characters we played, having the most accurate outfits out of everyone else.

Overall I think that this was a fun experience and I’d love to do it again! It can really improve relationships and you can even become more confident with public speaking or going up to perform plays more. I encourage everyone to give this a try, especially if you’re into stuff like this where you can really express your emotions!

Guts poster – Literacy 2024

Kia Ora! This week in Literacy, we are doing multiple reading challenges where we read a book relating to a specific genre then we make something to showcase the book. This is my poster for this book called “Guts” by Raina Telgemeier. The book is an ‘autobiography’ which means it’s a story written and based on the author’s life. It’s about Raina’s 5th grade years and how she struggled with her anxiety and friend problems. It shows how she lived and her feelings. It’s a good book and I recommend it for tweens or kids like me who relate to her in a way. This book is a comic/graphic novel!

Raina Telgemeier is an American cartoonist. She makes stuff like the autobiographical comic ‘Smile’, which is a middle school graphic novel. Most of her books have been on The New York Times Best Seller lists

Musical film study: The theme of Sing (Rosita) T2 Wk7

This week, Mana Ako is learning about musical films. We got put into 3 groups of 3 and me and my group did Sing. We all had to pick 1 character each. We had to study about the theme of the movie and the character we chose, as that’s what we are learning about this week.

My character was obviously Rosita.  Rosita is a mum of 25 piglets and her husband is always tired/lazy so she struggles a lot. She finds a flyer about the singing competition hosted by Buster Moon and decides to join it with her talent of singing and dancing. She has a passion for music and she is also an engineer. She’s supportive and caring.

Birthday celebrations – Kings birthday (MAC)

To kick off Mana Ako Club this week we had fun planning our very own 21st birthday party.  We looked at our guest list, a possible theme, menu and more! Today we are looking at King Charles birthday that was celebrated in NZ in the form of a public holiday. We celebrate this because we are part of the commonwealth.

What’s the commonwealth you might be wondering? Well the the Commonwealth of Nations, often simply referred to as the Commonwealth, is an international association of 56 member states, the vast majority of which are former territories of the British Empire from which it developed.

I think it’s a good idea for us to celebrate the King’s birthday because we get a free day off of school (Monday!) I also think it’s good because it’s nice to celebrate somebody’s birthday even if it’s not your own. It shows appreciation and respect.

In NZ as part of our celebrations we have the King’s Service Medal (created as the Queen’s Service Medal in 1975 and renamed in 2024).   It is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office.  Thanks to the NZ Royal Honours site

Revolting Rhymes: Respond to Text

Hello and welcome to blog!! This week in literacy we are learning all about Roald Dahl’s revolting rhymes but also how to read and engage our audience by reading aloud with clarity, enthusiasm & expression. I did a voice recording and I read “little red riding hood and the wolf”. In these slides I listened to my teachers’ voice recordings and had to explain why I rated it the way I did and how well he did with the WALT. It also has my reflection at the end on how I think I went in my own recording as well. I tried my very best to fit the WALT. I hope you enjoy my blog post!
